Naboo--Promises

"This is moonlight cave," said Dawn. "You can talk to dead people here."

Though this must have sounded strange, Dawn was happy here. She could see people. "One day I slept here for a few hours. I dreamt of the past. It was AMAZING!" Sitting down near the pool, she rested her head on her knees and sighed. Closing her eyes, she murmured, "Nidalap, if you feel sad, sleep here. Anyone can find you. If they want you to be found"

Inwardly, she hoped she'd see the lady she'd seen last time. She also hoped that Nidalap would see his family.

He needs it...

Talk to the dead?

Was she kidding him? Playing an elaborate joke on him? Nidalap didn't think so. She sounded like she really believed what she was saying. Maybe she was crazy, for all Nidalap knew. One thing was sure, though: he had no plans to sleep in this cave. He didn't want to talk to the dead...because he was afraid his parents and the few other people from his past he had cared about might find him. If they were dead, he didn't want to know.

He watched closely as the girl closed her eyes. Was she really going to fall asleep here? He hoped not, because if she did he would have to either leave or wait, because there was no way he was going to fall asleep. Just in case what she was saying were true.

Opening one eye, she said with some amusement, "I'm not crazy, Nidalap. You don't need to be afraid. Do you think that I would have brought you here if I didn't trust you? How about returning the favor. You don't need to fear the dead."

Dawn hoped that he would listen.

Nidalap... something happened to you, didn't it? Something that makes you avoid any contact to your family.

Nidalap shrugged his shoulders, but he was secretly a little irritated. Just because she could read his mind didn't mean she should pry it open and read his deepest thoughts! Was nothing sacred? He wondered how she was reading his mind even though she herself had told him that she no longer had a connection to the Force. Wasn't the Force what allowed her to do that?

Regardless, his resolve was unshaken, and he wasn't going to sleep in this cave. He would much rather think that his parents were out there somewhere than have confirmation that they were dead. Perhaps it was a mistake to follow Dawn here, after all. He didn't want to confront his past; he wanted to move forward, to look to the future.

Dawn quietly falls asleep. Awhile ago, she would have paused, have made a rude comment. But she had grown up.

"Okay... see you."
